Xiaomi just dropped a Tesla rival and it’s not what anyone expected

Fledgling Chinese EV manufacturer, Xiaomi, which has topped Tesla sales in 2025 after 18 months in the industry, has just dropped a new rival SUV, and the YU7 is not what anyone expected.

For quite some time now, the monopoly that Tesla has on the EV world has fended off threats from around the United States and Europe.

But the biggest competition is coming in bulk from the technological paradise that is China, and it has now produced yet another Tesla rival.

The Xiaomi YU7 Electric Sports is being rolled out this week, and it could be the biggest Tesla-topper on the entire market.

Most of the Tesla EV challengers from China have been like-for-like sedans.

The ‘affordable’ BYD Denza Z concept is one of the more optimistic luxury rides, hoping to win over fans with its smoldering looks.

However, Xiaomi has already been going head-to-head with Tesla’s finest, as its SU7 has been out-selling the Model 3 for consecutive months since the turn of the year.

Now, Xiaomi is set to announce its latest creation on Thursday, with the YU7 SUV.

In a post on the Chinese social media platform Weibo, Xiaomi revealed that the YU7 SUV will be revealed in full on May 22.

The unveiling will go hand in hand with a showcase of a new mobile phone chip after pouring over $1 billion into its development.

As for the EV, well, it’s clear to see that the SUV will be a solid rival to the bigger Tesla Model Y and X, sporting quite a European look with all of the typical Chinese luxury set to be packed inside.

What’s frightening for Tesla is that the Chinese manufacturers have mastered the assembly line, creating one of its signature SU7 models in 76 seconds flat – its factory is now a renowned tourist trap.

So far, Tesla has made light work of its competition, giving a backhand to 14 other models to have the Model 3 crowned as the best 2024 had to offer.

But with the Xiaomi YU7 Electric Sports SUV as a Model Y challenger and the Geely Radar RD6 pickup colliding with the Cybertruck, the cracks might finally start to show in the EV monopoly. The post Xiaomi just dropped a Tesla rival and it’s not what anyone expected appeared first on Supercar Blondie.
