As the first-ever Ferrari EV supercar gathers pace behind closed doors, it looks like the Chinese Xiaomi SU7 Ultra is being used as inspiration, after an eagle-eyed fan spotted one leaving the Ferrari factory.
It’s commonplace for supercars to have inspiration.
Most of the time, this is in-house, with different models starting with the blueprints of a predecessor and adding to them.
But with Ferrari creating its first EV, it appears to be learning from China about how to craft its new supercar.
Xiaomi SU7 Ultra spotted leaving Ferrari factory
Having fought against Italian supercar rivals like Lamborghini and legends from across the Alps in Bugatti, this feels very ‘paint me like one of your French girls’.
Just this time, the model is Chinese.
The Xiaomi SU7 Ultra is up there with the best supercars in China, fighting only alongside the likes of the BYD YangWang U9. And it appears to be posing as the EV poster art for Ferrari.
Having already impressed around the globe, the Xiaomi SU7 Ultra has been spotted leaving the Ferrari factory, seemingly having been used as inspiration.
Weibo user ‘Piniluoshan’ was among many who snapped the Chinese car leaving the Ferrari factory on July 28. The yellow body was unmistakable among all the Rosso red.
Another user claimed that the Xiaomi SU7 Ultra has been ‘confirmed’ as having been bought by the Italian company for testing, specifically to compare it to the Ferrari EV.
Usually, Ferrari uses Porsches, specifically the Taycan, in recent years.
What’s going on with the Ferrari EV supercar?
Having been announced earlier this year, the details about the Ferrari EV are sparse.
Previously, CEO Benedette Vigna claimed that the manufacturer is ‘ahead of schedule’ in its development process.
Aside from that, the only other detail is that the Ferrari EV will sound like an ordinary combustion supercar.
