China has had a breakthrough in EV battery safety, which it claims will stop car fires.

Like every piece of equipment, batteries are sometimes subject to faults, but thanks to new tests, this could be a thing of the past.

The new standard will be introduced next year.

China leads the way when it comes to advancing EV technology

From new electric cars, to new charging technology, the country has provided some game-changing discoveries.

For example, BYD recently launched two 1,100HP EVs that can charge 248 miles of range in five minutes.

Now, there’s a new breakthrough, and it’s all to do with what lies under the hood – the battery.

A new safety standard could change the game

Newly released information from China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) has revealed that a new standard will come into play, which will prevent batteries from exploding.

“The main contents of this revision include revising the thermal diffusion test, further clarifying the temperature requirements of the battery to be tested, the power on and off status, the observation time, and the vehicle test conditions,” stated the Government.

It’s a world first

The new standard will come into effect on July 1, 2026, so there’s not long to wait until we see it in action.

Under the new standard, batteries will undergo a series of strict new testing to ensure the safety is top notch.

The Chinese government claimed the new standard would ensure new EVs were the safest cars on the road.
