Hobby pilot performs amazing flypast at NASA’s space shuttle landing facility

This hobby pilot performed an amazing flypast at Florida’s space shuttle landing facility run by NASA.

He managed to get permission to use a runway that most aviation enthusiasts only dream of visiting.

The pilot even got permission from air traffic control to go ahead with the amazing experience.

And the views really were something else.

NASA dominates space exploration

From launching missions, to rovers and even planes, NASA is constantly leading advancements when it comes to looking beyond our galaxy.

For example, NASA’s Perseverance Rover took a ‘classic’ selfie on Mars with an unexpected guest.

Additionally, two NASA F-15 jets chased one another over the Mojave Desert, and what they did was unprecedented.

So, naturally, as they launch so many missions, they need a place for them to land, too.

And, after one hobby pilot spotted the space shuttle landing facility from high above, he decided to take his chances and see if he could fly past and see it for himself

One pilot saw a NASA space shuttle landing facility from the sky

Content creator flymetothefun was flying high in the sky in Florida and spotted the NASA space shuttle landing facility.

So, he decided to contact mission control to see if he could perform a flyby, and as luck would have it, they said yes.

The hobby pilot explained that if the facility is open and the workload of the controllers allows it, they will clear you for a fly-by, which, let’s face it, is an epic turn of events.

“We just happened to be flying past it on our way down to Palm Beach,” he said as he explained the process when talking to air traffic control.

So, it was all systems go for the hobby pilot.

“On the way in, we saw rocket launching sites everywhere,” the content creator explained.

“It took us almost two minutes just to fly the length of the runway, looking down at the exact spot that 78 shuttle landings have taken place.”

Online, social media users were impressed by the request, too.

“That’s actually epic. Amazing what happens if you ask nicely! That’s so cool of them to allow it,” said one user.

“Now that’s awesome,” said another.

“This was truly one of the coolest things that we’ve done in our plane, so far, and I can’t say thanks enough to the awesome controllers for accommodating our request,” concluded the content creator.
