How one GPS ping uncovered a million-dollar luxury car theft
Massachusetts State Police were tracking a stolen vehicle when its GPS pinged in Indianapolis.
They notified the Indianapolis Metro Police Department, which located the car on the lot in the 1000 block of South Keystone Avenue.
After receiving permission to inspect the other vehicles, detectives uncovered 11 more stolen cars from multiple states.
The recovered lineup was headlined by a 2020 Rolls-Royce Ghost, a 2019 Mercedes-Benz G 550, and a 2023 Cadillac Escalade.
Also on the lot were a BMW X7, a GMC Yukon, a Toyota Highlander, a Dodge Ram 2500, and two Lexus RX 350s.
The total value of the 12 Indianapolis stolen vehicles was estimated at just over $1,022,000.
No arrests have been made, and the case remains under investigation.
The vehicles are secured in police custody and will remain there until their owners can retrieve them.
Reaction to the million-dollar find
If you scroll through IMPD’s Facebook post, you’ll find a mix of praise, humor, and suspicion about the discovery.
Some couldn’t believe the stash sat so close to Indianapolis’ criminal justice center.
“Not even half a mile from the new jail campus,” one user pointed out.
But most comments were pure relief and applause for IMPD.
Residents congratulated detectives and celebrated that the stolen rides will make their way back to the owners.
One person summed it up simply: “Great work – now get the crooks next.”
For locals watching the story unfold, the big question now isn’t whether the Indianapolis stolen vehicles are safe – it’s who thought they could stash a million dollars in stolen luxury on a quiet lot and get away with it.
