JENNIE channeled the classic beauty of Coco Chanel at the 2025 Met Gala on Monday (May 5).
She wore a custom Chanel black tuxedo gown with pearl details and a black-and-white boater hat. This marks the K-pop star’s second time wearing Chanel at the Met, following her debut in 2023 when she wore a vintage 1990 white satin bustier dress.
“Everything was inspired by the ’20s and the ’30s of the Coco Chanel runways. I just feel so good with the hat and everything!” she gushed to Vogue red carpet host La La Anthony. “It was wonderful working with the Chanel team because coming from Coco Chanel’s legacy and history, it had everything to do with what we wanted to represent.”
She also briefly touched on reuniting with LISA, Rosé and Jisoo for BLACKPINK‘s upcoming reunion tour, which kicks off in July. “It’s BLACKPINK in your area, back again!” JENNIE exclaimed without spoiling any details. “It’s gonna be good, and we all can’t wait to meet our fans.”
This year’s Met Gala celebrated the theme of “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style,” inspired by Monica L. Miller’s 2009 book Slaves to Fashion: Black Dandyism and the Styling of Black Diasporic Identity. The official dress code is “Tailored for You,” a nod to the spring 2025 exhibition’s focus on menswear and is “purposefully designed to provide guidance and invite creative interpretation,” according to Vogue.
Pharrell Williams, A$AP Rocky, Colman Domingo and Lewis Hamilton served as co-chairs, while LeBron James served as honorary chair. James announced on X he had to cancel his appearance due to a knee injury he sustained at the end of the season. Tyla, Doechii, André 3000, Usher, Janelle Monáe and more also served as members of the costume institute benefit host committee.
