LA Disney fan’s fully-working vintage Autopia car might be the coolest Disney collectible ever

This LA Disney fan’s fully-working vintage Autopia car might be the coolest Disney collectible ever and it takes him right back to his childhood.

Autopia is 70 years old and was one of the opening day attractions at Disneyland in California, it is a ride that involves little gas-powered cars that can be driven on the Disneyland Autopia speedway.

There’s nothing more quintessentially Disneyland than Autopia, and Disney superfan Peter Menotti managed to get his hands on an original vintage Mark 7 body of a fully-working vintage Autopia car.

Disney very rarely lets the public have access to retired ride components, but Menotti was just in the right place and the right time.

Any Disney fan worth their salt knows how important the ride Autopia is in the history of the Disney Parks, particularly Disneyland California, the original park.

Autopia was an opening-day attraction for Disneyland and even Walt Disney himself was pictured riding in an iconic Autopia car.

Guests drive small gas-powered cars around a controlled track and it was so popular that versions of it can be found at most of the Disney parks across the world.

This lucky man, Peter Menotti has his own fully-working vintage Autopia car that he just drives around his neighborhood and he was certainly in the right place at the right time to get his hands on it.

He has what might be the coolest Disney collectible ever

The fact that the Disney superfan has his own personal Autopia ride car is means he is extremely lucky because Disney never really sells off its retired ride parts to the public.

Menotti got his yellow car from a third-party seller when Disney swapped from its Mark seven version that drove on the speedway from the late 1960s to the late 1990s.

Peter only got the body, so he rebuilt all the other parts to be as identical to the original Autopia speedway originals, like a tiny 8.5-horsepower four-stroke engine, as well as keeping the height and rate identical.

The LA Disney fan knows he’s lucky because he said of his little ride car: “That car every weekend allows me to be a nine-year-old again.”
