Laurent Mekies – Formula 1 experience in abundance

Laurent Mekies is a man with a very long and interesting story in Formula 1.

He is an engineer by trade who specializes in motorsport aerodynamics.

The Frenchman got his start at the Asiatech team in Formula Three in 2000.

Mekies then made the switch to F1, working for the Arrows Grand Prix International team.

He then moved to the Minardi team, where he became the engineer for drivers such as Mark Webber.

The Minardi team was taken over by Red Bull in 2005 and rebranded as Scuderia Toro Rosso.

At the end of 2005, Laurent Mekies was promoted to become the chief engineer of Toro Rosso.

After a stint working for the FIA, Mekies moved to racing royalty – Scuderia Ferrari.

The Frenchman eventually became Deputy Team Principal and Racing Director of Ferrari in January 2021.

Last season saw Laurent Mekies return to the Red Bull setup, becoming Team Principal of Visa Cash App Racing Bulls F1 Team.

Mekies faces McLaren onslaught, internal strife

Now, Laurent Mekies finds himself in the eye of the biggest storm in F1.

Just this morning, the Formula 1 world was rocked by the departure of Christian Horner from Red Bull Racing.

It’s an announcement that sees Laurent Mekies promoted to replace Horner in the top job.

He might well be getting the dream job, but it has come at a nightmare time, as he finds himself as a Team Principal facing the onslaught of McLaren.

Both Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri have proven to be a devastating one-two combo this season.

Rumors have also continued to swirl about reigning Formula 1 champion Max Verstappen.

The cornerstone of the Red Bull Racing programme is rumoured to be moving to Mercedes-AMG Petronas F1.

The 48-year-old Frenchman has officially been given the keys to a Formula 1 kingdom.

But he is facing one mammoth job to keep the kingdom at the top of the F1 world. The post Meet the new CEO of Red Bull Racing Laurent Mekies, the man taking over Christian Horner Formula 1 spot appeared first on Supercar Blondie.
