Chinese-owned carmaker MG has just unveiled a new, boxy EV called the Cyber X that could be a rival to the Land Rover Defender.
The quirky-looking Cyber X SUV has followed in the footsteps of the amazing MG Cyberster sports car, and the new SUV marks a bold direction change for the company.
The boxy proportions are very different from previous MGs, and the best bit is it is around the same size as the Land Rover Defender 90.
Should it be a big hit in China and Europe, then the Cyber X could be game-changing for the company.

The Cyber X is a perfect Land Rover rival
Thanks to its proportions, the Cyber X EV could be a real thorn in the side of the Land Rover Defender.
It is roughly the same length and width, and slightly shorter than MG’s S5 EV that recently hit the market.
MG launched the Cyber X at the Shanghai Motor Show and hoped it would gain interest from enthusiasts.
The Cyber lineup is catered to the enthusiast, hence the launch of the Cyberster sports car.
The company is hoping that Cyber X can deliver on that same promise.
They also hope it can be a comfortable car to get people from point A to point B.
While it may share underpinnings and family lineage with the Cyberster, the Cyber X is very different.
MG has created a very boxy-looking electric SUV
The Cyber X is bigger than the Cyberster, but also much more square.
It isn’t as sleek as the Defender.
But it has some nice curves and good proportions, placing it on the smaller end of the SUV scale.
Despite the boxy design, its edges are comparatively soft, and overall, the SUV has a very pleasing design.
While much of what was said was PR talk, the company hopes it can be a family car that has character.
In other words, a car that families don’t feel like they have had to buy just because they have a family.
One very neat feature is the pop-up headlights at the front, a feature we never see on cars in 2025.
The pop-up is much safer than what we saw in the 1980s.
But it’s proof that MG isn’t afraid to go bold with its latest creations. The post MG just revealed an electric SUV that could challenge the Defender appeared first on Supercar Blondie.
