The new Nissan Leaf has had a boost to its range and has the lowest starting price for any new EV in the US.
Launched back in 2010, the Nissan Leaf was the world’s first mass-market EV.
Back then, the all-electric had a range of just 73 miles, but the 2026 Nissan Leaf now boasts an impressive 303 miles of range.
It also has the lowest starting price of any new EV in the US.

The 2026 Nissan Leaf has the lowest starting price for any EV in the US
Nissan unveiled the all-new third-generation Leaf back in June.
The car has been given a face lift and now sports a sleeker and more streamlined design, featuring motorized flush door handles – a first for Nissan.
Its range has been increased, so it now offers more than 300 miles on a single charge and it’s compatible with the Tesla Supercharger network.
Not only that, but it also comes with a super-afforadble starting price tag of just $29,990 for the the 2026 Leaf S+ model, making it the lowest price EV on the market in the States.
The carmaker has also launched the Leaf SV+ and the Leaf Platinum+, priced at $34,230 and $38,990, respectively.
“The LEAF really kicked off the mainstream EV market when it launched 15 years ago, and Nissan’s still committed to making electric driving accessible to all,” senior vice president of US Marketing and Sales at Nissan Vinay Shahani said.
“We’ve stuck to our mission of engineering EVs that are affordable but packed with value. That’s how we’ve kept the LEAF’s price steady over three generations — all while giving owners more style, more technology, more features and a vastly improved driving range over the original 2011 model.”
Are more affordable EVs on the way?
Nissan isn’t the only carmaker making EVs more affordable.
Earlier this month, Volkswagen said it was committed to introducing cheaper EVs, with the upcoming ID.Polo set to cost under €25,000 (around $29,000) for the entry-level model.
And Kia has launched its EV2, that comes in at around $33,600 – the company has also hinted that it could one day make a super-cheap $25,000 option.
