Brands such as BYD, Geely, and SAIC have completely seized momentum in the EV space.
One of the biggest hitters of the Chinese electric brands is Xiaomi.
And people are having to wait so long to get this Chinese EV that even its own CEO is telling buyers to go to rivals.

Xiaomi YU7 has taken the car world by storm
Out of every car to emerge from the Chinese EV space, Xiaomi has produced perhaps the most popular one.
The YU7 is an SUV that has people across the car world sitting up and taking notice.
It offers a longer driving range than the Tesla Model Y, more advanced tech, and it’s cheaper.
First unveiled back at the beginning of the summer in June, it has proven to be so popular that it received over 240,000 orders within 18 hours.
That roughly equates to the entire number of vehicles that Tesla has sold in China in the first half of 2025.
It is clear to everyone within the car world that the YU7 has the Tesla Model Y square in its crosshairs.
The entry-level ‘standard’ YU7 costs around $35,000, and it offers over 519 miles of single-charge range.
By comparison, the base Tesla Model Y RWD starts at $36,700 with a range of 368 miles.
Chinese EV CEO tells customers to buy rival cars if needed quickly
The brand actually finds itself with the best problem that a car manufacturer can possibly have.
It simply cannot keep pace with demand for the brand-new Xiaomi YU7.
And it has led to the company’s CEO making some extraordinary comments.
In fact, Lei Jun has recommended that customers buy rival cars if they need a vehicle in a hurry
“If you need to buy a car quickly, other China-produced new energy vehicles are pretty good,” Lei said on social media.
The CEO recommended the XPeng G7, Li Auto i8, and even the YU7’s rival – the Tesla Model Y.
According to the brand’s app, the wait time for the Xiaomi YU7 is at least 56 to 59 weeks.
It certainly doesn’t appear to have deterred potential buyers, though.
Wait lists continue to rise and remain as strong as ever, even with massive time frames involved.
Would you be willing to wait over a year just to get a new car?The post People are having to wait so long to get this Chinese EV that even its CEO is telling buyers to go to rivals appeared first on Supercar Blondie.
