The angle of the camera, alongside the sheer vastness of the space the excavator has been dropped into, make it look like a kid’s toy.

Some folks online have said it’s almost like an optical illusion and it’s left them feeling uneasy.

There are some really interesting optical illusions caused by footage of vehicles, like this one that appears to show a row of cars increasing in size, but they’re actually all the same size, or this car that has been chopped in half and looks like it sank through the floor. 

Over on Reddit, someone recently shared a video of an excavator being lowered into a cargo ship to help out during its unloading. 

In the clip, the excavator is lowered down onto what looks like red-colored sand. 

The sped-up footage shows someone working away on the excavator while a large grabber occasionally pops down to remove some of the sand. 

And if you took a quick glance at it, you’d be forgiven for thinking you were looking at a child’s toy in a sandbox. 

However, the machine in the video is the real deal, much to the disbelief of social media users. 

“No, that’s definitely a toy. I refuse to accept a shipping container that large,” one Reddit user said. 

“I’m having a very hard time determining size from this perspective,” another admitted. 

“Is there a phobia for that? If not, we should name it because I have it,” said a third.

The filming technique involves filming from a high angle with a shallow depth of field, which causes the foreground and background to blur.
