This Porsche 930 Turbo with only 23,000 miles on the clock had been left to rot in a Texas backyard, and a guy flew in to buy it.

It’s a good thing, too, as this 1987 Turbo had been left out to face the elements for a while.

But it was still a remarkable car, all things considered.

This Porsche 930 Turbo had been left out for a while

What is it about a car that’s been left out in the elements that we find so fascinating?

Perhaps there’s a sense of wonder: “Wow, that car has been out in the open all these years and still looks good!”

There were these JDM legends that had been hiding in plain sight in a Georgia backyard.

Or how about the cars that started as junkyard trash and ended up as dragstrip legends, thanks to David Frieburger?

And when they’re all piled together in a car graveyard, they’re a mesmerizing sight – as this graveyard in Miami demonstrated.

In the case of this Porsche 930 Turbo, it was someone’s backyard in Houston, Texas, that it had been sitting in.

But with no shelter to cover it from the rain, it’d been left exposed to the elements.

Someone from Dodi Auto Sales had flown in for a closer look at it.

Was it worth their time and air miles?

Taking a closer look at the car

“I used to polish it all the time,” the owner said.

“But for the last six or seven years, it’s just been sitting here.”

The owner had bought it from another doctor back in 1995, when he lived it out in California.

“He was getting married and he’d just had kids,” the owner explained.

“So he left his toys and bought a minivan.”

And why hadn’t he driven it since before the COVID Pandemic?

“I think I came out one day and it wouldn’t start,” he recalled.

“And I thought ‘F**k it, I don’t want to spend a grand a year on insurance’.”

Considering it’d be left out for so long, it wasn’t looking too shabby.
