The BYD Han L EV that recharges in only five minutes does exist, but there is a catch.
The Chinese EV utilizes the impressive BYD Megawatt charging system, and they are some seriously impressive pieces of kit.
They can recharge a car with 250 miles of range in just five minutes, and all it needs is a 1,000kW charger and a compatible EV system.
Despite this, however, those who want to take advantage of the car and system in the United States might not be so lucky.

The real problem with the Han L EV and the charging system is that they’re currently not available in the United States.
Both will likely take longer to appear, too, following the addition of tariffs between China and the USA.
However, despite this, it’s still very cool and impressive to see what BYD is capable of.
BYD developed what it called the Super e-Platform, using the 1,000-volt architecture.
That is even more impressive than the 926 volts used by the Lucid Gravity, with BYD developing its own components.
The Han L shares its platform with the Tang L, and both can take advantage of the super-fast charging.
BYD has invested a lot in building a battery that can safely handle this rapid charging.
This is their Flash Charging Battery, using lithium-iron-phosphate battery packs.
An advanced direct refrigerant cooling system ensures the battery doesn’t overheat and stays cool during fast charging.
BYD’s various changes should also ensure the batteries last longer and are safer overall.
The battery technology shows just how quick and impressive BYD’s progress has been since it joined the electric car segment.
Their EVs are also very affordable.
The Han L sedan retails at around $29,000 while the Tang L starts at $31,000 and rises up to $40,000.
Should they come to the United States, both will massively undercut many of their rivals already on sale.
Plus, they have an excellent trick up their sleeve thanks to the super-fast charging. The post The BYD EV that charges in five minutes is actually real, but there’s just one catch appeared first on Supercar Blondie.
