Tiny electric car reaches a top speed of 75mph and has pedals to charge it

French company Cixi has created the Vigoz: a three-wheeled, chainless pedal electric car that has a top speed of 75mph and is safe for use on roads.

Cixi was founded a decade ago and has spent the last few years working on the Vigoz. 

Now, the company has revealed the latest production design. 

And it’s probably safe to say, you’ve never seen a vehicle quite like this before.

There are some interesting new developments when it comes to pedal-powered vehicles, like this e-moped that can do 65mph. 

Or the Vigoz that has a human-integrated drivetrain and comes with a surprisingly swift top speed of 75mph. 

The Vigoz runs on three wheels, but is fully enclosed, making it more like an electric car than a trike – there’s even room for ‘a passenger, a pet, or big stuff’ in the back. 

However, unlike your standard EV, the Vigoz uses something called a Pedaling Energy Recovery System. 

According to Cixi, this means it can ‘convert human power into bicycle propulsion through electricity, enabling the rider to intuitively control speed and braking by pedaling’.

In short, the mechanical energy the rider creates from pedaling, is transformed into electricity and transferred directly to the motor. 

‘You can then multiply it by using the battery’s energy to boost your own power at different levels: Muscular, Active, Balanced, Punch, or Dynamite,” Cixi explains. 

“More pedaling, more power. More power, more speed.”

It also makes use of regenerative braking, which helps to boost range and make brake pads last longer. 

The Vigoz is approved for use on public roads, including highways, with the company saying its height of 65 inches means it’s visible to other vehicles, and also offers the rider ‘generous visibility’.

The Vigoz will come with a subscription

For now, the Vigoz isn’t available to purchase or to reserve, with Cixi explaining that reservations will only open once the company has a ‘clear view of delivery timelines’. 

However, when it does go on sale, it will only be available to purchase with a subscription, a bit like Netflix.
