The US Secret Service is officially in talks with General Motors Defense for a new range of vehicles.
It is currently in discussions to provide new, multi-terrain vehicles.
Given that it’s the US Secret Service, any such vehicles are, of course, a closely guarded secret.
But it now appears that we might finally have some insight into what these new, off-road vehicles might look like.

US Secret Service shifts gears in vehicle approach
One of the most important governmental bodies in the United States is the US Secret Service.
It is the one agency whose sole purpose for existence is the protection of the President.
No matter where the President goes, the US Secret Service follows very closely.
And that applies very heavily when it comes to traveling on the roads.
In addition to the famous Presidential limousine – nicknamed ‘The Beast’ – the US Secret Service uses a variety of other vehicles.
These most commonly include armored Chevrolet Suburbans and pursuit SUVs.
It now appears, however, that the Secret Service wants to shift its focus and priorities.
The current Secret Service director, Sean Curran, recently sat down for an interview with Car and Driver.
And some of the director’s comments about future vehicles were very revealing.
Approach seems to prioritize off-road capabilities
The first priority for the new platform of US Secret Service vehicles appears to be more off-road capabilities.
Director Curran pointed to places such as Africa, where the new vehicle would blend in better than the armored Suburban.
“You know, we do it based on the terrain, based on the threat environment, and just our needs,” Curran said.
What is equally as interesting is how much the process has changed for supplying government vehicles.
Before GM Defense began investing in armored vehicles, it was common practice for the US Secret Service and others to buy cars off dealer lots and cut off body panels.
Those bodies would then have armor welded in throughout before it was bolted back together.
The problem with this process is that civilian vehicles would be weighed down with armor that it was never designed for.
Now, GM Defense can work hand-in-hand with the US Secret Service to build dedicated cars from the ground up.The post US Secret Service in talks over new off-road vehicles for two important reasons appeared first on Supercar Blondie.
