Watch Jimmy Fallon Break Down Trump & Putin’s ‘Bad Blood’ Using Taylor Swift Song Titles

Jimmy Fallon had a clever way of explaining President Donald Trump‘s rocky relationship with Vladimir Putin, as the late-night host used Taylor Swift songs to break down their history ahead of an upcoming meeting between the two world leaders.

On the Wednesday night (Aug. 13) episode of The Tonight Show, Fallon opened his monologue by saying, “Well, guys, the two big stories right now are Trump and Putin’s summit, and of course, Taylor Swift announcing her new album.”
The host continued that he and his team decided that “there’s no better way to explain the summit than by breaking it down using Taylor Swift’s songs,” before launching into the segment. “For a long time, Trump would look at Putin and think, ‘You Belong With Me,’ and when the people told him to stay away from Putin, he’d just ‘Shake It Off’ and shout, ‘But Daddy I Love Him.'”
“But recently, they’ve had some ‘Bad Blood,’ and of course, Putin has a terrible ‘Reputation,'” the comedian added as audience members cracked up, tying in references to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and the Epstein files scandal. “Americans are worried that Trump isn’t ‘Ready for It,’ because his brain is basically a giant ‘Blank Space.'”
The timely monologue comes as — as Fallon mentioned — much of the world is either reeling over the news of Swift announcing her The Life of a Showgirl album or eyeing Trump’s upcoming meeting with Putin. The former took place on Tuesday (Aug. 12), with the pop star revealing more details about the Max Martin- and Shellback-produced LP on an episode of Travis Kelce’s New Heights podcast the next day, while the latter is expected to take place in Alaska on Friday (Aug. 15). The twice-impeached POTUS has stated that he intends to threaten the Russian president with “very severe consequences” at the summit if the war in Ukraine doesn’t come to an end.
