An American man from California revealed the huge cost of filling up his hydrogen-powered Toyota Mirai sedan.
Hydrogen power is one possible alternative to electric cars when it comes to renewable energy-powered vehicles.
However, hydrogen is still quite expensive, and there are only a small number of cars on sale that use a hydrogen fuel cell, with the Mirai being one of them.
YouTuber Shant’s Garage took his Mirai to a refilling station to reveal just how much you would have to pay to fill it back up with hydrogen.

The YouTuber is full of praise for the Mirai
Shant begins with the caveat that this is his favorite car that he has ever owned.
He says it is nippy and has plenty of power for a luxury daily commuter, and it’s a very high-quality car.
The Mirai shares much of its DNA with Lexus as well as the Toyota Crown series.
The YouTuber was also full of praise for how quickly it is to refill the car at a hydrogen pump.
He has a 2019 model, and he has done around 44,000 miles with it.
The 2019 version is from the first-gen model, which has a 152hp 4JM fuel-cell powertrain under the hood.
That powertrain also makes 247lb-ft of torque and has enough range for 312 miles.
How much does refilling a Toyota Mirai cost?
Shant’s Garage took the car to a gas station where the hydrogen refilling pump is located.
The previous customer paid just under $160 to refill the car according to the pump’s screen.
It costs roughly $36 per kilogram to refill the car, which has gone up from the $12 it originally cost when the Mirai was new.
Toyota is currently paying up to $15,000 in fuel credits to customers over the first three years.
Hyundai, which also makes a hydrogen car, is doing something similar.
The YouTuber himself filled it up, and it cost him just under $120.
He finished off by saying that if you don’t have the infrastructure, it isn’t worth getting a Mirai.
But with the structure and Toyota’s credit, it does make sense. The post California man reveals huge cost to fill a Toyota Mirai, understands why people don’t buy hydrogen cars appeared first on Supercar Blondie.
