Illinois-born legend built a 1970 Cadillac ‘Guitar Car’ for Elvis Presley — now it’s for sale on eBay

A 1970 Cadillac Eldorado ‘Guitar Car’ that was built by movie car legend Jay Ohrberg for Elvis Presley has gone up for sale on eBay. 

It’s believed to have taken Illinois-born Ohrberg two years to create the bizarre custom Caddy. 

It was then given to Elvis, who took it out for a spin on at least one occasion, and has recently resurfaced in France. 

The pink Cadillac has clearly seen better days, but how often do you get the chance to own a piece of music and automobile history?

The Cadillac Eldorado ‘Guitar Car’ was built by Jay Ohrberg for Elvis

For those unfamiliar with the name, Jay Ohrberg is responsible for creating some of the most memorable on–screen cars ever, including K.I.T.T., the talking car from Knight Rider, and the Batmobile used in the Tim Burton Batman movie – one of which recently went up for sale. 

Alongside those iconic motors, back in the 1970s Ohrberg made this completely unique Guitar Car for the King of Rock and Roll himself. 

The donor car for the build was a 1970 Cadillac Eldorado that Ohrberg then cut in half. 

He made the neck and fretboard for the custom build on a tubular structure made of steel, which he then covered in fiberglass to create its distinctive shape. 

The Car-dillac came with an 8.2-liter V8 paired with a three-speed automatic transmission, which could produce 394 horsepower. 

As you can tell by looking at it, the vehicle was heavy, and it was probably an absolute nightmare to drive – can you imagine turning a corner in it?

Nonetheless, Elvis Presley used it at least once – to drive to one of his Las Vegas shows.

The car has recently resurfaced in France and is up for sale

After Elvis drove it, the unique vehicle’s history is somewhat murky. 

What we do know is that it’s now in France and has been listed for sale on eBay with a starting price of €10,000 – around $11,180.50.

The whole thing is in serious need of some TLC and will require a fair bit of work to return it to its former glory, but it could make a perfect project for an Elvis fan. 

It wouldn’t be the first time we’ve seen an old vehicle belonging to the late singer given a new lease on life. YouTuber Jimmy Webb snapped up a private jet that once belonged to Elvis Presley and converted it into an awesome RV.
