The brand-new Star of the Seas is now officially the biggest cruise ship in the world

A new ‘Icon-class’ vessel named Star of the Seas, from Royal Caribbean, is now the biggest cruise ship in the world, tying its sister ship in size and capacity.

The ship measures 364.8 meters long and has a gross tonnage of 248,663, with a maximum capacity of 7,600 passengers.

It was officially delivered on July 10, 2025, and will enter service from Port Canaveral, Florida, US, later this year.

The vessel represents the cruise line’s most ambitious leap in cruise ship design to date.

The biggest cruise ship in the world has entered service

Star of the Seas was built in Finland and is part of Royal Caribbean’s latest class of ships, known as the Icon class.

It ties with Icon of the Seas for the title of the biggest cruise ship ever, based on size and how many people it can carry.

The ship has space for 5,610 passengers in regular rooms and up to 7,600 when fully booked.

There are 20 decks, and around 2,350 crew members are expected to work onboard.

The construction began in early 2023 and took just over two years to complete.

Royal Caribbean confirmed that the ship cost around €1.74 billion.

The first trip with paying passengers will leave from Port Canaveral, Florida, on August 31, 2025.

Star of the Seas is powered by several large engines and specially designed systems that help it move and turn despite its size.

While the technology behind it is complex, the goal was simple: build a ship that could carry more people than ever while being safe, efficient, and easy to navigate.

The cruise ship design also focuses on organizing the space so that guests can move easily between areas without feeling crowded.
