A vacationer was left baffled by a license plate without numbers or letters in Europe, but he discovered there was an important reason for it.
An American was visiting Malta when he spotted a Range Rover without any numbers or letters on its license plate.
He took to Reddit to enquire about the meaning behind this.
That’s where he discovered this was done for an important reason.

Redditor Safe-Usual-838 was visiting Malta for a food festival when he came across a Range Rover.
Instead of numbers and letters, this car’s license plate simply had a crest in the middle of it.
Heading onto the Malta subreddit, he wrote:
“I saw this at the local food fest in Valletta, Malta, I don’t live here, I just want to know what this means.”
The answer came quickly from a fellow user:
“The President, the Prime Minister, and Archbishop are exempt from number plates and affix their respective emblems instead.”
Looking at the design on the car closely, this makes sense – the emblem does look very regal.
Myriam Spietri Debno is currently the President of Malta, whilst Robert Abela is the Prime Minister.
Charles J. Scicluna is the Archbishop of Malta.
The question remains – which of these three important figures was attending the food festival?
Who knew such a small part of a car could make such a big difference?
License plates are a pretty small part of the overall car, so people often overlook them.
But they can matter a whole lot.
Down in Australia, one license plate ended up selling for $7.5 million, while a rare New York license plate would fetch big bucks despite it being extremely simplistic.
And in a similar vein to the Malta license plate, a car in Australia had a license plate without numbers too – having a crown on its plate instead.
This represented the car of the Governor of Queensland.
