Indiana residents now have the chance to upgrade their ride with special license plates that are turning heads across America.

Starting August 8, the state’s Bureau of Motor Vehicles (BMV) will release a sleek blackout plate featuring a bold black background with crisp white lettering.

It’s a clean, modern design that stands out without trying too hard.

Supplies are limited, so drivers will need to act fast if they want to take advantage of the opportunity.

A minimalist blackout look

Unlike standard issue plates, the blackout plate is an optional upgrade.

It is available for a variety of vehicles, including passenger cars, motorcycles, RVs, and trucks under 11,000 pounds.

A disability-accessible version is also in the works, but not yet available at launch.

While it’s not part of Indiana’s specialty plate program, residents will still need to pay a small fee to get one.

If your current plate isn’t up for renewal, you can swap it out early for just $9.50.

If you’re ordering a plate for a newly registered vehicle, the fee is $45, with another $45 if you’d like to personalize it.

The plate can be ordered online, through a self-service kiosk, or by visiting a local BMV branch.

One limitation of these special license plates, however, is that the blackout look can’t be combined with other specialty plate themes.

To mark the launch, Indiana officials held a promotional event showing off the plate on a variety of vehicles, including a Ford Mustang, Shelby Cobra replica, International Scout, and CanAm Spyder.

Even the refreshments were on theme, with blackout-themed treats served to guests.

Special license plates are not unique to Indiana

The trend isn’t unique to Indiana.

Several other states, including Florida, Montana, Kansas, Washington, and Arizona, have introduced similar plates with black backgrounds and white accents.

Connecticut, on the other hand, went in a different direction when it launched pizza-themed license plates for a good cause.

Around the world, unique license plates can cost huge sums of money.

For example, this British man spent a $585,000 on a unique license plate, and calls it the best investment he’s ever made.

If you thought this was a huge amount of money, Australians went crazy for this unique license plate, which ended up selling for $7.5 million.

While Indiana’s blackout plate may not cost such eye-watering sums of money, it’s popularity shows that simple styling and a modern look is enough to grab the attention of the masses.

If you want one, it’s best you don’t wait; this plate may disappear from stock as fast as it hits the streets. The post Indiana residents will need to move quickly to get one of these special new license plates, supplies are limited appeared first on Supercar Blondie.
